What each preset sounds like
Every preset is a fixed set of reverb, echo, filter, distortion and compression values tuned to a particular kind of speaker in a particular kind of room. Pick the one closest to what you hear in your head, then move the sliders from there — the Custom preset keeps whatever you land on.
Ballpark — the default, and the closest thing to an open-air baseball stadium. A short 1.3-second tail, a 90 ms slap before the first reflection, and a fairly wide 200 Hz–5.5 kHz band keep the words readable while the reverb stays in the background.
Arena — an indoor or domed venue. The tail nearly doubles to 2.2 seconds and far more of the wet signal is blended in, so the voice smears into the room.
Vintage — an older horn-loaded system. A 4 kHz ceiling and a bit more grit than Ballpark, with a medium tail.
Modern — the cleanest option. The widest passband on the list (up to 6 kHz), the least saturation and the gentlest compression.
Classic — the most heavily processed of the room presets. The band is squeezed to roughly 250 Hz–3.5 kHz, distortion sits around 20%, and compression is near the top of its range, so quiet syllables get dragged up to the same level as the loud ones.
Outdoor — the biggest space. The longest tail (2.5 seconds), the longest pre-delay and the most wet signal, which reads as distance: a voice bouncing back off something far away.
Megaphone — not a room at all. The reverb is almost switched off and the signal is squeezed into a narrow honk band around 1–2.4 kHz with a steep, three-stage filter, then driven into a hard clip with a resonant peak near 1.5 kHz.
Tips for a clean result
The effect only ever sounds as good as what you feed it. A few things make a much bigger difference than any slider:
Record mono. A PA is a mono source by definition; a stereo file just gets the same treatment applied twice with no benefit.
Aim for peaks around -6 dBFS. That leaves headroom for the compression and saturation stages, which both add level before the final normalisation pass.
Start dry. Do not add your own reverb, echo or room tone first — the preset is adding a room, and stacking two rooms turns consonants to mush.
Keep distortion modest. Between 10% and 25% reads as a driven speaker; much beyond that and it stops sounding like a venue and starts sounding like a broken file.
Privacy and how processing works
Your audio is decoded and processed by the Web Audio API inside this browser tab. It is not transmitted to any server, and there is no backend that could receive it — nothing is retained once you close or reload the page, and the preview and download are both generated locally from the buffer already in memory. Like most free sites, this one does use analytics and third-party advertising, which do set cookies; the Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is collected and how to opt out of personalised ads.
